After admiring the pony for a while, take a look at the house in the background.  Even in this traditionally-poorer portion of Ireland, the extreme northwest, the influx of money is evident in fine new homes and commercial buildings.  The town of Clifden is traditionally noted for its two high church spires, but both times we were there, those spires were dwarfed by construction cranes.
