An asset of the Demesne that is well-publicized is this alley of box hedges, the tallest in the world (thus certified by the Guinness records folks.) Dating back centuries, they owe their height to a lucky break: they are the few in the Demesne that were spared during World War I; the others were harvested for propellers for warplanes, due to boxwood's extreme hardness.
