After a couple of days to acclimate to the time and the roadside, we drove to our month's headquarters: the Birr Castle Demesne.
The drive from Dublin to the heart of the midlands was lovely; the first half was along brand-new, freeway (or autobahn) quality "dual carriageway" superhighways; the latter half was less modern, but more in line with our expectations.
