After our visit to Aillwee Cave, we rambled along the coastal road to Doolin on our way to the Cliffs of Moher, rather than take the congested, narrow main road (the N67 to Lisdoonvarna).  August, after all, is the height of tourist season, but by our second week we had become comfortable with lesser roads and they served us well for the duration of our stay in the Republic.
