The "Carroll Oak," which dominates the parkland portion of the Demesne North of the castle's main entrance. The current Earl named it "the Carroll Oak" in honor of the O'Carroll family, since it was probably mature when that clan "held sway in Birr before the end of the sixteenth century," as he says in The Red Tree Trail guidebook.
